Whatever made you think it is going to be a motorway through the National Park?"

24th October 2008

Here is an article http://nomottrambypass.blogspot.com about the threat to our Native Woodland in a report from the Woodland Trust. It shows the importance of  the battle to save Swallows Wood within the national context  See  Save Swallows Wood Campaign. Swallows Wood.jpg (72128 bytes)

10th October 2008  Somewhat puzzlingly there are apparently plans for a "new nature reserve" in Longdendale -  according to an article in the Glossop Advertiser  It should be noted that this is open countryside and is already effectively a nature reserve. Most of the area described is in Tameside MB.

30 September 2008 A new document, HA80,  is now available at the Persona Associates regarding a possible route to Bypass Proposal V5.0. It reads as little more frankly than a Statement of the Issues regarding the scheme that have been in the public domain since it was first coopted into the Roads Programme, about 10 years ago.

The programme drawn up in this document will keep Highway Agency project managers in their well salaried employment, which it might be felt is a luxury that this country can no longer afford. I personally do not understand how the Highways Agency escape audit constraints as it is public money being spent here. What the Highways Agency are doing effectively is going back to Square 1, repeating the entire process for progressing a road scheme, under a new project manager, and this cannot in any way be a sound way of using public funds which could finance sustainable transport instead. .

September 2008JK Rowling gives Rufus Scrimgeour £1 million to support the Srimgeour party (see Harry Potter section).

September 2008 The Public Inquiry into the A628 Mottram Bypass is "in abeyance". The latest news can be found by using the "Valuable" link to the Inquiry website on the left.. The Highways Agency have commited to producing a revised timetable to the Inspector by the end of August. A document covering this is now available. A further document is scheduled for release at the end of September, but dont hold your breath!
